James Baldwin says, "In order to survive this (the this he speaks to is that of racism and oppression, and yet I decipher this to speak survival in general), you have to really dig down into yourself and re-create yourself, really, according to no image which yet exist in America. You have to impose, in fact—this may sound very strange—you have to decide who you are, and force the world to deal with you, not with its idea of you.”

 This from Robert A. Johnson:

“What is this curious dark element that follows us like a saurian tail and pursues us so relentlessly in our psychological world? What role does it occupy in the modern psyche?”

Decide who you are, and force the world to deal with you, not its idea of you. That still vibrates in me. There has always been something hidden in the dark, but I struggle to identify exactly what or who it is. The lingering shadow, following me from a distance.

Cu, short for and containing both incubus and succubus in one form, is the culmination of experiences, sensations, and sense of memories of past and present partners—both romantic and platonic.

The shadow’s hold on me to the dreamlike possession of the succubus and incubus, who prey on men and women in their sleep resulting in erotic nightmares. To be clear, this presence isn’t malicious or necessarily sexual in that way, yet like the demon, it takes the life force of the partners it connects with and store them within with itself.

Our fusion together changes us and the people we encounter.

What do you want with me?

Words from James:

"If you can examine and face your life, you can discover the terms with which you are connected to other lives, and they can discover, too, the terms with which they are connected to other people."
